In partnership with

There’s a stigma around single mothers.
We all know it, without having to name it.

If we’re honest, most of us have carried some version of it in our minds.
I know I did.

I used to judge single moms.
Especially the ones who had never been married.

And now - I am one.

And here’s what I’ve learned:
The stigma couldn’t be further from the truth.

Choosing to keep a pregnancy when you don’t know how you’ll do it alone is not weakness, it’s courage.
It’s stepping into uncertainty without guarantees.
Without a safety net.
Without knowing how the finances, emotions, or day-to-day will work out.

It’s carrying your own broken heart while carrying new life inside of you.
Rebuilding yourself while nurturing someone so innocent, so hopeful, so full of wonder - while your own mind is full of worry.

Single mothers don’t choose the easy road.
They choose the hardest one - and walk it anyway.

The stigma makes life heavier.
It makes dating more complicated.
It forces constant discernment.

Is this man intentional—or does he assume I’ll settle?
Is he looking for partnership—or convenience?
Love—or a placeholder?
Does he see strength—or someone he thinks needs saving?

Here’s the part we don’t talk about enough:

It takes one time to get pregnant.
One.

Some people “try” for years.
Others make one choice - and their entire life changes in seconds.

Unplanned.

And now many women carry a stigma no one should bear - especially while raising a child alone.

But when I look at single mothers now, I see something different.

I see grit.
I see grace.
I see women who chose selflessness when it may have, in many ways, been easier not to.

I see women who gave up the life they thought they’d have for the child they were given.
Who went to appointments alone.
Who cried alone.
Who woke up every hour alone and still showed up to work the next day.

Women who rebuilt their lives quietly while their child slept beside them.
Who made every decision alone, routines, schedules, sleep, discipline, carrying the mental load from sunrise to midnight.

This is not failure.
This is leadership.

By the grace of God, this is a strength I now carry.

And to the single mothers who came before me - the ones I judged, misunderstood, or silently dismissed - please forgive me.

You are not the stigma.
You never were.

You are resilience.
You are sacrifice.
You are love in its most demanding form.

And it’s time we change the narrative.

Grit. Grace. And a refusal to carry false narratives.
